A study in psychological noir, reinterpreting classic black-and-white film iconography through the lens of social restraint. The Sharpie drawing technique on 14x17" Canson Bristol paper recreates the interference of an old transmission, where light is obscured by a domestic object. The figure attempts to hide their identity, but the presence of the Hound of Consciousness (or primal instinct) is revealed, painted directly onto a newspaper substrate from Austria. This choice of material links the work to the artist’s investigation of European social structures and media control. Notably, the hound is depicted with wire restraints that prevent it from biting—a powerful allegory for the systemic muzzling of instinct and the tension between the constructed self and the raw impulse that lies beneath the surface.
